Using specially imported fusible glass, the range of colours, shapes and textures are almost limitless. Two or more glass layers are stacked upon each other and fused at nearly 800 C, resulting in a product which is attractive and durable enough to withstand dishwasher use and the odd knock.
What kind of glassware can be made?
Glass forms that are not flat must be “slumped” by gravity into or over a mould. Therefore, many practical items can be produced such as plates, platters, bowls and vases.
What is annealing?
Annealing is a very important part of the kiln fusing process. Once fusing is complete the kiln must be cooled slowly through specific temperature ranges to relieve internal stresses. If not done correctly the glass is much more prone to shattering.
